For the fourth time, Bilbao will host the SEUP Annual Meeting, which is celebrating its 30th edition—a source of great satisfaction and a new challenge for everyone involved in its organization.
The last time Bilbao hosted our annual scientific event was in 2015. Even then, we spoke of the great transformation the city had undergone; ten years later, it has become a premier venue for a wide range of professional and business events, as well as a top-tier tourist destination. Bilbao is a welcoming city, offering high-level cultural and gastronomic experiences, and is easy to explore both on foot and via its modern public transportation. Our venue will once again be the Euskalduna Conference Centre, a landmark that hosts the city’s major artistic events and national and international congresses for leading scientific societies. Its location, facilities, and dedicated staff and technical resources make it an ideal setting for sharing work and leisure moments.
Our specialty, Pediatric Emergency Medicine, is at a significant stage of development, pending its designation as an Area of Specific Competence in Pediatrics, which will provide an official training program in the field. This program will promote the teaching accreditation of centers and professionals and guarantee the acquisition of competencies for Pediatric Emergency physicians. Furthermore, the emergence of new technologies and the innovation they bring—both in professional training and clinical practice—should be seen as an opportunity to provide higher quality and safer care to the children and families who visit Pediatric Emergency Departments. This year’s theme, “Integrating Innovation and Competencies,” embraces this reality. It reflects our intention to dedicate a large part of this meeting to discussing the keys to safely incorporating digital and technological advancements into continuous specialized training, research, and daily clinical work.
