For yet another year—the fifteenth in a row—the largest science outreach event in Spain, Naukas Bilbao, returns with its unique formula for bringing scientific knowledge to the public in a simple and lighthearted way. Organized by the scientific outreach platform Naukas in collaboration with the Chair of Scientific Culture at the University of the Basque Country, the event will bring together more than fifty people dedicated to promoting the local and national scientific scene on September 19 and 20.
Over two days, the public will be able to enjoy 10-minute monologues, shows, and scientific experiments. This special anniversary edition promises great new features. Among them is the incorporation of Naukas Pro into the general program, a proposal in which scientists and members of research centers share their research and experiences. Among others, psychiatrist Eva Garnica (RSMB) will explain to the public the relationship between microbiota and mental health, and mathematician Judith Rivas (EHU) will show the fascinating connection between Basque dances and mathematics.
Alongside the new additions, familiar faces to the Naukas Bilbao audience will also participate in the event’s fifteenth anniversary, such as biologist Luisma García Escudero (University of Seville), who will focus on the folds of insects’ eyes, and physicist Daniel Marín, who will talk about the conquest of space by tech moguls such as Elon Musk and Jeff Bezos.
In addition, journalist Antonio Martínez Ron will talk with Eloísa del Pino, president of the Spanish National Research Council (CSIC), from the Euskalduna Bilbao auditorium.
This activity is part of Bilbo Zientzia Plaza 2025, a scientific outreach initiative organized by the Chair of Scientific Culture of the University of the Basque Country, sponsored by the Bilbao City Council and Euskampus Fundazioa, and in collaboration with the Department of Science, Universities, and Innovation of the Basque Government, Donostia International Physics Center (DIPC), Metro Bilbao, and EiTB.
