Bilbao hosts the National Congress on Engineering in the Healthcare Sector for the first time in the Basque Country
From 4 to 6 November, Euskalduna Bilbao will host the 43rd National Congress on Engineering in the Healthcare Sector, one of Spain’s leading events in the field. Held in the Basque Country for the first time under the theme “Towards the RE-EVOLUTION of the hospital. Engineering and healthcare transformation”, the Congress is organised by the Spanish Association of Hospital Engineering (AEIH) and will bring together professionals from hospital engineering and architecture, healthcare managers and professionals, universities, institutions and technology companies over three days.
This edition aims to look beyond new technologies to address a fundamental question: how is the hospital changing, and what new capabilities will it need to develop to meet the challenges of the coming decades?
Artificial intelligence, data, robotics, automation, new infrastructure, sustainability and digital transformation will all feature in a programme structured around four main areas: the hospital that thinks, the hospital that acts, the hospital that adapts and the hospital as it is experienced. Four perspectives from which to explore how to better understand what happens within a hospital, expand its capacity to act, continuously adapt to change and preserve the human dimension of care.
The Congress will feature national and international experts as well as representatives from different healthcare systems. The opening lecture will be delivered by Juan Luis Arsuaga, Professor of Palaeontology at the Complutense University of Madrid.
After bringing together more than 1,500 professionals, 60 speakers and 130 companies in its 2025 edition, this year the Congress will turn Bilbao and Euskalduna Bilbao into a meeting point for engineering, medicine, nursing, architecture, technology, management and innovation.
An opportunity to consider not only what the hospital of the future will look like, but also what we will need to learn to do differently in order to build it.
